Signs My SUV Needs a New Engine

You drive an older SUV but it is paid off. You have no intentions of getting a new automobile because you don’t want car payments. Taking care of the SUV’s engine is crucial to prolonging its life. This being said, the engine will need to be replaced when it gets too old. The following are signs that your SUV needs a new engine or that the engine needs to be rebuilt.

Contaminated Oil

When we say contaminated oil, we mean that the motor oil has metal shavings in it. If you see metal in the oil when you check it, do not drive the SUV. Rather, have the SUV towed to our shop to avoid damaging the engine beyond repair. In all reality, the engine is already damaged beyond repair because it is dissolving into the motor oil. The metal in the oil is evidence of that.

Exhaust

When we say exhaust, we don’t mean little puffs here or there. We mean a ton of exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe that makes your SUV look like a smokestack. This is a sign that you have a severe fluid leak in the engine, and the fluid that is leaking is either motor oil, coolant, or fuel. Driving your automobile could damage the engine, so have the SUV towed to our shop.

Knocking Noises

If you have tried high-octane fuel in the engine still knocks, the rod bearings in the cylinder block are likely worn. This causes the pistons to crash against the cylinder walls. Unfortunately, this can damage the cylinders. In addition, it can break a rod. Constant knocking needs to be looked into right away to make sure you don’t cause unnecessary damage to the cylinder block.

Overheating

You never want to drive the SUV if it is overheating. The reason why is that you will cause additional damage to the engine. If the SUV overheats all the time, you may have cracked the head gasket without realizing it. In addition, the engine will overheat constantly if the cooling system needs to be replaced. Finally, the engine will overheat all the time if the cylinder block is cracked.

To conclude, there will come a point when your SUV’s engine will stop producing power. There isn’t a fix for this. The engine has just reached the end of its life. When this happens, we can replace the engine for you so you can continue to drive your SUV. Give us a call today.
